Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned on Thursday that Israel would respond forcefully if the Syrian government fails to protect the Druze minority, following two days of deadly clashes near Damascus. The U.S. Embassy in Beirut announced that General Michael Lenny has joined the Ceasefire Implementation Committee as a senior military leader, serving full-time in Beirut. The Lebanese army has dismantled “more than 90 percent” of the military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah group in the area south of the Litani River, near the border with Israel, since the ceasefire came into effect, a security source told Agence France-Presse on Wednesday.
